Afghanistan, Feb. 27 -- Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, says that Washington will no longer allow its NATO allies to rely on American taxpayer dollars to fund their defense budgets.

Rubio responded to the remarks made by Friedrich Merz, whose political party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Germany, recently won the early parliamentary elections. Merz claimed that due to Washington's indifference toward European security, NATO is at risk.

The U.S. Secretary of State stated, "NATO is not at risk. The only thing that threatens NATO is that we have allies in NATO with very small armies or armies that are not very capable because they haven't spent any money on them for 40 years"
