Afghanistan, May 27 -- A police officer guarding a polio team in Balochistan was shot dead, highlighting risks health workers face in Pakistan.

An unidentified gunman killed a police officer guarding a polio vaccination team in Nushki district, Balochistan, on Tuesday. According to Deputy Commissioner Amjad Hussain Sumro, the officer, Wahid Ahmad, was shot dead in the Killi Mohammad Hasni area.

This attack comes just a day after two polio workers were reportedly abducted in the Tank area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while conducting door-to-door immunization campaigns. Armed assailants kidnapped the workers during their outreach in Dolat Koruna.
