Afghanistan, Nov. 11 -- Pakistan's Senate has approved rare constitutional reforms granting Army Chief Asim Munir expanded powers and lifetime immunity while curbing the authority of the Supreme Court.

Pakistan's federal government, with strong backing from ruling coalition parties, has introduced a set of constitutional amendments that significantly enhance the powers of Army Chief General Asim Munir. The reforms also propose limiting the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court in constitutional cases.

According to Reuters, the Senate passed the bill on Tuesday, marking one of the most consequential constitutional overhauls in recent years. The legislation now moves to the National Assembly, where it must be approved to become law.
