Afghanistan, Nov. 30 -- Pakistan's foreign minister said Islamabad was ready to launch a cross-border operation inside Afghanistan during recent clashes, but Qatar and Turkey intervened to halt it.

Pakistan was prepared to launch a cross-border cleansing operation inside Afghanistan during last month's border clashes, but the move was halted after urgent mediation by Qatar and Turkey, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said.

Dar, told reporters that the two mediators stayed in continuous contact with Islamabad as fighting intensified. He said both governments "were likely aware" of Pakistan's planned offensive and pushed for restraint to prevent escalation.
