Afghanistan, June 28 -- Over 88,000 undocumented Afghan migrants were deported from Iran in one week, the IOM reports, warning of urgent humanitarian and funding needs.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that between June 18 and June 26, a total of 88,308 undocumented Afghan migrants were deported from Iran to Afghanistan. The surge in forced returns has sparked growing humanitarian concerns at the Afghanistan border.
According to the IOM's June 28 update, only 11 percent of these returnees received any form of humanitarian assistance due to limited resources. The organization called for urgent funding to meet basic protective and humanitarian needs for the most vulnerable.
