Afghanistan, Feb. 8 -- Iraq says hundreds of detained Islamic State members are being transferred from Syria as Baghdad expands efforts to prisons and pursue prosecutions.
Iraqi security spokesman Saad Maan said 2,250 detained Islamic State members have been transferred from Syria to Iraq, with further transfers expected.
According to Kurdistan24, the operation was coordinated with the international coalition and conducted by land and air, placing detainees in high-security Iraqi facilities.
Reuters earlier reported the United States is close to completing the transfer of about 7,000 suspected IS detainees, prioritizing those considered most dangerous.
