This incident had a significant impact on the 22 million people living across Sri Lanka.

Kumara Jayakody, Sri Lanka's Energy Minister, reported on Monday that a monkey searching for food entered one of the power stations in southern Colombo. The animal made contact with a transformer, causing an imbalance in the power system. As a result, the country experienced a total blackout.
