Afghanistan, Nov. 15 -- A media watchdog urged Pakistan to stop detaining and deporting Afghan journalists after police arrested Jafar Niazi, warning forced returns threaten lives.

A media watchdog has voiced concern over the arrest of Afghan journalist Jafar Niazi in Rawalpindi and urged Pakistan to immediately stop detaining and deporting Afghan media workers.

NAI, the Afghanistan media-support group now operating in exile, said Rawalpindi police detained Niazi and planned to return him to Afghanistan, warning this could endanger his life. It urged his immediate release, noting he had committed no crime beyond seeking refuge.
