Afghanistan, Jan. 28 -- The Belarusian Election Commission has declared Alexander Lukashenko the winner of the presidential election for the seventh consecutive term.

According to the Associated Press, the Central Election Commission of Belarus announced early Monday, January 27, that Lukashenko secured nearly 87% of the votes in the presidential election.

Reports indicate that the other four candidates in the election were all supporters of Lukashenko and backed his administration. Meanwhile, many genuine opposition figures are either imprisoned or forced into exile due to the suppression of political and civil freedoms.
