Afghanistan, Aug. 6 -- In a groundbreaking move, the Lebanese government has tasked the army with drafting a plan to disarm Hezbollah by the end of this year.
According to AFP, the six-hour cabinet session held on Tuesday, August 5, was chaired by President Joseph Aoun. The initiative is aimed at fulfilling the terms of a November ceasefire agreement with Israel.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that the army has been assigned to develop a framework ensuring that only state forces are permitted to carry weapons within Lebanese territory.
He further emphasized that the decision to limit arms to the state is "irreversible," declaring that decisions of war and peace must rest solely with the legitimate government of Lebanon.
