Afghanistan, Feb. 22 -- Islamic State claimed responsibility for two attacks on Syrian army forces in Deir al-Zor and Raqqa, signaling continued instability in eastern Syria.
The group said on Saturday through its affiliated outlet "Dabiq" that it carried out two separate operations targeting Syrian government forces in the cities of al-Mayadeen in Deir al-Zor province and Raqqa.
According to the statement, an Islamic State fighter shot and killed a member of the Syrian government forces in al-Mayadeen using a handgun, while two additional soldiers were targeted in a separate assault in Raqqa.
