Afghanistan, Nov. 18 -- Iran will host a December regional meeting to reduce escalating tensions between Taliban officials in Kabul and Pakistani authorities in Islamabad, officials said Monday.

Iranian Foreign Ministry official Saeed Khatibzadeh told Sputnik News that neighboring and regional countries will participate, focusing on stability in Afghanistan and cross-border cooperation.

The meeting will address key regional security issues, including mechanisms to support Afghanistan through multilateral approaches, according to Iranian authorities.

Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has held two phone calls this week with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to discuss easing tensions.
