Afghanistan, Sept. 7 -- Iran Human Rights says executions nearly doubled this year, with more than fifty Afghan nationals among 864 people executed in eight months, sparking international condemnation.
Iran Human Rights reported that executions in the first eight months of 2025 reached 864, nearly twice the figure recorded in the same period last year.
Among those executed were at least fifty Afghan citizens, making Afghans one of the most disproportionately affected groups. Rights monitors warn the true numbers could be higher.
The Kurdish group Hengaw reported an even higher estimate of 59 Afghans executed. Discrepancies highlight the lack of transparency surrounding Iran's judicial and penal system.
