Afghanistan, Oct. 2 -- A rights group reports Iran executed at least 10 Afghanistan citizens in September, part of 187 total cases, marking a 140 percent year-on-year surge.
The Hengaw Human Rights Organization has reported that Iranian authorities executed at least 10 Afghanistan nationals in September, as part of a wider surge in death penalty cases.
In its monthly update, Hengaw said a total of 187 people were executed across Iranian prisons last month, representing a 140 percent increase compared with the same period in 2024.
Among those executed were six women, including one Afghanistan woman, sentenced on drug-related charges. Rights groups say such cases often lack fair trial guarantees.
