Afghanistan, Jan. 3 -- Iran and Russia condemned U.S. military action in Venezuela, while European governments urged restraint after President Donald Trump announced strikes and Maduro's detention.

Iran and Russia on Saturday condemned what they described as a U.S. military attack on Venezuela, following President Donald Trump's announcement that American forces struck Caracas and detained President Nicolas Maduro.

Iran's Foreign Ministry, a close ally of Caracas, said it "strongly condemns the U.S. military assault on Venezuela," calling it a blatant violation of the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity and an illegal act of aggression.
