Afghanistan, Sept. 17 -- An internet shutdown across several Afghanistan provinces has severely disrupted banking services, forcing authorities to exempt financial institutions, while restrictions on communications and connectivity continue nationwide.

Severe banking disruptions were reported in northern Afghanistan after Wi-Fi services were suspended in several provinces, including Balkh, according to local sources.

In Mazar-i-Sharif, financial transactions were heavily affected until local authorities ordered banks, the electronic ID office, and key institutions to be exempt from internet restrictions. Services were partially restored later that day.
