Afghanistan, Aug. 21 -- Gilgit-Baltistan has entered a period of growing unrest as police personnel continue demonstrations over delayed allowances and benefits. Instead of resolving the grievances through dialogue, the regional administration has responded with suspensions and salary halts, escalating tensions between law enforcement officers and the government.
The protests began in mid-August when hundreds of police officers, including women constables, staged an overnight sit-in outside the Chief Minister's House in Gilgit.
