Merz, who is a strong contender in the upcoming elections, stated that 40,000 asylum seekers in Germany are eligible for deportation. He referred to them as "ticking time bombs" in cities and communities, emphasizing the urgency of the issue.
On Monday, Merz called for stricter border controls and granting more authority to police to prevent illegal migration and deport undocumented migrants. He aims to make migration a central focus of his election campaign.
