Afghanistan, Feb. 6 -- French President Emmanuel Macron, in a phone conversation with Ahmed al-Sharaa, reaffirmed his country's support for Syria and extended an invitation to him to visit France.

During the call on Wednesday, February 5, Macron congratulated al-Sharaa on his appointment as the President of the Syrian Arab Republic in the transitional phase and emphasized France's continued support for Syria.

The two leaders also discussed the economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people during the conversation.

In return, the Syrian transitional president expressed his gratitude to Macron for the call and for France's supportive stance towards the Syrian people over the past 14 years.
