Afghanistan, April 1 -- French far-right leader Marine Le Pen has been barred from politics for five years following a conviction for embezzlement.
Marine Le Pen, leader of France's far-right National Rally party, was convicted on Monday for embezzling European Parliament funds. As part of her sentence, she has been banned from participating in elections for five years, which also disqualifies her from running in the 2027 presidential race.
In addition to the election ban, the French court sentenced Le Pen to four years in prison, two of which are suspended, and the remaining two will be served under house arrest. The court also imposed a €100,000 fine on her for her involvement in the illegal use of parliamentary funds.
