Afghanistan, Dec. 4 -- UNICEF says four displaced children have died from severe cold in Kunar, Afghanistan, warning thousands more remain at risk as winter deepens.
Four children affected by recent earthquakes in Afghanistan have died from cold in a displacement camp in Kunar province, UNICEF confirmed on Wednesday.
Tajudeen Oyewale, UNICEF's representative in Afghanistan, said the deaths occurred in the Zari Baba camp in Nurgal district, where families displaced by the earthquakes are living without adequate protection against winter conditions.
According to Oyewale, the children died from freezing temperatures and illnesses that could have been prevented with timely medical care, shelter, and basic winter support.
