Afghanistan, Sept. 19 -- Five people were killed and three others injured when an explosion ripped through a migrant area at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, worsening the region's humanitarian crisis.

A powerful explosion struck the migrant camp area of Chaman on Thursday evening, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing at least five people and injuring three.

Deputy Commissioner Habib Bangalzai said the blast occurred at a taxi stand where Afghan migrants and local residents had gathered. Rescue teams quickly reached the scene.

He confirmed five people died instantly, while three others were rushed to Chaman's government hospital. Officials are still working to establish the victims' identities.
