Afghanistan, Feb. 22 -- Health authorities in Badghis Province have confirmed the first case of polio this year in the Bala Murghab district.
Mohammad Yousuf Najmi, the General Director of the Collective Immunization Department in Badghis, stated on Friday, February 21, that the positive polio case was recorded in the "Quruto" area of Bala Murghab district.
According to the Health Department official in Badghis, the virus was detected in the body of a five-year-old girl. This marks the first reported case of polio in the province this year.
This comes as the World Health Organization has raised concerns about the increasing number of polio cases in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
