Afghanistan, Aug. 1 -- FAO reports Afghanistan remains the most food-insecure nation worldwide, with 75% facing livelihood instability and over 12 million urgently needing food aid as drought and poverty deepen.

A new report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) ranks Afghanistan once again at the top of the list of countries facing food insecurity in 2024 and 2025.

The report, released Wednesday, July 30, says 295 million people in 53 countries are experiencing acute hunger, an increase of 13 million compared to 2023.

Afghanistan has been on the FAO's chronic hunger list since 2016, alongside Ethiopia, Nigeria, Congo, Syria, and Yemen, due to political turmoil, humanitarian crises, and climate change impacts.
