Afghanistan, June 5 -- A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck northeast Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, shaking border areas with China and Tajikistan.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) has reported a moderate earthquake that shook parts of northeastern Afghanistan late Wednesday night.
According to EMSC, the earthquake occurred at approximately 11:59 PM local time on June 4, affecting areas in Badakhshan province and neighboring regions bordering China and Tajikistan.
The quake measured 5.3 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located in Jurm district, about 65 kilometers northwest of Faizabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan.
