Afghanistan, April 2 -- Five individuals will stand trial in Bulgaria for their involvement in the deaths of 18 Afghan refugees, who suffocated in a truck.
The Bulgarian government has announced that the Sofia Prosecutor's Office will put five individuals on trial for their involvement in an organized criminal group, human trafficking, and the death of 18 Afghan refugees in 2023.
According to the Bulgarian News Agency, on Tuesday, April 1, two of the accused witnesses testified that the Afghan refugees could not breathe properly due to "excessive pressure from each other."
The report stated that despite noticing the issue, the accused continued to close the truck doors and kept driving.
