Brazil's Supreme Court has sentenced former president Jair Bolsonaro to more than 28 years in prison for conspiring to overturn the results of the 2022 election.

The ruling, delivered on Thursday, found Bolsonaro guilty of plotting a coup with political and military allies in an attempt to block the peaceful transfer of power. Five justices voted to convict him on charges of conspiracy to subvert democracy.
