Afghanistan, July 17 -- A man in Paktika province has been sentenced to death by a local court for allegedly insulting the Prophet and Islamic sanctities.

The Taliban's Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice announced that a man has been sentenced to death in Paktika province for alleged blasphemy.

According to ministry spokesperson Saif-ul-Islam Khyber, the man-identified as Abdul Aleem Khamoosh, a resident of Janikhel district-was arrested and tried by the Taliban's primary court.

Khyber stated that after an investigation, the court ruled that Abdul Aleem had insulted Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, which led to the death sentence.
