Afghanistan, Nov. 17 -- At least 42 Indian pilgrims were killed near Medina, Saudi Arabia, early Monday when their vehicle collided with a fuel tanker, authorities and media reported.

At least 42 Indian citizens were killed early Monday near the city of Medina, Saudi Arabia, after the vehicle carrying them collided with a fuel tanker, Indian media reported.

The pilgrims were reportedly traveling to Medina to perform Umrah, the minor Islamic pilgrimage, when the tragic accident occurred, according to the Hindustan Times.

Among the deceased, 16 were identified as residents of Hyderabad, southern India. Authorities have not yet released the full identities of the victims.
