Swiss authorities said dozens of people were killed and about 100 injured after a fire broke out at a crowded bar during New Year's Eve celebrations in the country's southwest.

According to Reuters, Switzerland's police have not released a final toll, while Italy's foreign ministry said police information indicated at least 40 people died in the blaze.

The fire erupted around 1:30 a.m. at the luxury Crans-Montana ski resort, inside a bar known as "Le Constellation," where many guests had gathered to mark the new year.
