Afghanistan, Sept. 28 -- Afghanistan's permanent representative in the United Nations Ghulam Muhammad Ishaqzai said that he abandoned his speech in the UNGA in order to preserve national interests and Afghanistan's seat.

Ghulam Muhammad Ishaqzai was due to give a speech at the UN's 76th General Assembly on Monday, September 27 but called off his intention.

Afghanistan's Mission in UN in a Twitter post said that they will continue working with UN Security Council to preserve Afghanistan's seat in the UN.

Earlier, Taliban's political office member Sohail Shaheen said that they have the right to participate in the UN and criticized the decision of excluding them in this year's UNGA.
