Afghanistan, Sept. 1 -- A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan's Kunar province killed 610 people and injured over 1,300, with widespread devastation reported across neighboring regions including Nangarhar and Laghman.

The Taliban's Ministry of Interior has confirmed that at least 610 people were killed in the powerful earthquake that struck Kunar province late Sunday night.

Abdul Mateen Qane, spokesperson for the Taliban Interior Ministry, said on Monday that more than 1,300 people were also injured in the disaster.

Authorities reported that in Nangarhar province the death toll climbed to 12, while at least 255 others sustained injuries from the tremors.
