Afghanistan, Jan. 25 -- A group of unknown men raped a 15-year-old girl in Afghanistan's central Bamyan province, a police official said on Saturday.

According to Mohammad Raza Yosufi, the spokesman for Bamyan police, the poor girl was gang-raped on Friday by several men in Dost Bek Foladi village of the provincial capital, Bamyan.

The assault happened as the girl was busy washing clothes along the river. The rape case took place in the light of the day as ordinary people consider Bamyan to be one of the safest provinces in the country.

"The incident is under serious investigation, and the police are searching to find out the culprits and deal with them accordingly," said Yosufi.
