Afghanistan, Sept. 5 -- From January to August 2025, Afghan nationals submitted over 30,000 asylum requests in Germany, driven by Taliban restrictions on women and worsening conditions at home.
Afghan nationals accounted for the highest number of asylum applications in Germany in 2025, with 104,012 submissions recorded between January and August.
Among these, 14,865 were first-time applications, while 15,914 were repeat filings, often due to updated documentation, legal changes, or deteriorating conditions in Afghanistan.
The surge, particularly among women, followed a European Court ruling recognizing Taliban restrictions as gender-based persecution. In the first eight months, 9,139 Afghan women submitted repeat applications.
