Afghanistan, March 22 -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that 2024 was the deadliest year for refugees worldwide. According to the IOM, nearly 9,000 people lost their lives in 2024 while attempting dangerous migration routes, including the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea.

The IOM has confirmed that at least 8,938 people perished along migration routes this year. The report emphasizes that the most perilous migration routes are in Asia, followed by the Mediterranean Sea and certain paths in Africa.
