Afghanistan, Oct. 25 -- Seventeen people died after a migrant boat from Turkey capsized near Bodrum, prompting a major search operation as two survivors reached safety.

Seventeen people, including sixteen migrants and a suspected smuggler, have died after a boat capsized early Friday in the Aegean Sea near the Turkish resort town of Bodrum, authorities said. The vessel reportedly overturned within minutes of setting off due to a technical malfunction.

Two survivors were rescued, including an Afghan national who told local officials he swam for six hours before reaching the nearby island of Celebi. He said dozens of others were trapped in the sinking vessel and unable to escape.
