The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to ban begging in the national capital, affirming that it won't take "elitist" view since the begging is "not out of choice" but a result of poverty and socio-economic issues.

A bench comprising Justices Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud and Mukesh R Shah was considering a PIL filed by one Kush Kalra seeking to restrain beggars and vagabonds or those who are homeless from begging at traffic junctions, in markets and public places to avoid spread of Covind-19 pandemic.
