Srinagar, July 21 -- Senior Congress leader and former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Monday urged the central government to immediately restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying the delay is unjustified and goes against the commitments made to the people.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the party's march to Delhi, Mir recalled the government's original roadmap after the abrogation of Article 370: reorganisation, delimitation, elections, and then restoration of statehood. "Ten years have passed since that promise, and even after the new cabinet passed a resolution, there has been no progress on restoring statehood," he said.
