Langate, Nov. 24 -- As cold mornings and evenings grip Kashmir early this year, residents of Mawer have appealed to the authorities to fast-track the annual firewood supply to masjids. The firewood is essential for heating traditional hamams, which help worshippers stay warm during prayers in harsh winter months.

Every November, the Forest Department provides firewood to masjids across Kashmir, a long-standing practice that supports nearly 30 masjids in Qalamabad Mawer Tehsil alone.
