SRINAGAR, Nov. 6 -- The Philippines has declared a state of emergency after Typhoon Kalmaegi caused large-scale destruction across central parts of the country, leaving at least 241 people dead or missing.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr announced the decision after a review of the disaster's impact. According to officials, 114 deaths have been confirmed, mostly from flash floods, while 127 people are still missing, many from Cebu province.

Nearly two million residents were affected, and about 560,000 were forced to leave their homes.
