Srinagar, Feb. 5 -- Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that Islam places social justice and human welfare at the core of its teachings, making the protection and care of orphans, widows, the needy and weaker sections of society a sacred moral and social obligation.

Dr. Farooq was speaking at a humanitarian event organised by the Human Aid Society NGO in Jammu. On the occasion, essential items were distributed among more than 100 orphans, in the presence of prominent civil society members and respected personalities from various sections of society.
