Jammu, March 2 -- The gambling law in India is complex due to the fact that each state has its own legislation that either permits or prohibits gambling. Most gambling regulation classifies games into one of two groups: skill and chance. The difference matters because it determines the legality of the various forms of gambling.

The key legislation around this is The Public Gambling Act, 1867, which bans the running of public gambling houses.
