Srinagar, Jan. 8 -- The 40-day harsh winter period known as Chillai Kalan, which began on December 21, 2025, has so far remained largely dry, with only 21 days left before it ends on January 30, 2026.

According to news agency KNS, the first 19 days of Chillai Kalan passed without any major snowfall or rainfall in the plains of Kashmir. Although some upper reaches witnessed light to moderate snowfall last week, the plains are yet to receive any snow this winter season.
