Srinagar, June 2 -- CPIM leader and MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Sunday said that the off-season snowfall over the past few days in higher reaches such as Margan, Warwan, Gurez, Peer ki Gali, and upper areas of Aharbal has caused significant damage to maize crops and livestock.
He said the snowfall has badly affected many people residing in the upper belts, and the government should provide them with relief.
Tarigami said that many nomadic families, particularly from the Gujjar-Bakarwal and Chopan communities, have suffered losses. These communities rely on traditional pastoral practices and seasonal migration for their survival, and such unexpected weather events only worsen their hardships.
