Srinagar, Feb. 6 -- The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was opened for traffic on Thursday with restrictions in place, allowing the movement of light motor vehicles while imposing regulated movement for heavy vehicles, officials said.
According to traffic authorities, light motor vehicles were permitted to ply on the highway from both directions. However, heavy motor vehicles were allowed to move only from Srinagar towards Jammu. No heavy vehicles were permitted to travel from Jammu to Srinagar on the day.
Police officials said the restrictions were imposed to ensure smooth regulation of traffic and to prevent congestion on vulnerable stretches of the highway, particularly in view of prevailing road and weather conditions.
