Srinagar, July 15 -- Doda: At least four people lost their lives and 17 others sustained injuries after a tempo traveller skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in the Ponda area along the Doda-Barath road on Tuesday morning.

An official told news agency JKNS that the vehicle, bearing registration number JK06-4847, was on its way when it veered off the mountainous road and plunged into the gorge, triggering a massive rescue operation.

A senior police officer, while confirming the details to local agency said, "We have recovered four bodies from the spot and 17 injured persons have been shifted to hospital for treatment.
