TOKYO, Sept. 28 -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan issued the following news release:

On September 28, 2025, Japan time, sanctions against Iran that had been lifted under UN Security Council Resolution 2231 in 2015 were reimposed. Japan has consistently emphasized the importance of resolving the issue through dialogue, closely cooperating with relevant countries, based on the position that Iran's development of nuclear weapons must never be allowed. It is regrettable that the parties involved could not reach an agreement despite Japan's continued diplomatic efforts, including high-level approaches to Iran, such as the Japan-Iran Foreign Ministers' Meeting on September 23.
