On October 15, commencing at 1:10 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Mr. Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The overview is as follows:
At the outset, Minister IWAYA expressed his respect for the staff members of UNHCR who stand by and assist refugees and displaced persons. He expressed his willingness to cooperate with UNHCR to improve serious humanitarian situation in the Middle East and around the globe from the perspective of "human security," as advocated by the late High Commissioner Ms. OGATA Sadako.
