TOKYO, May 28 -- Joint Staff issued the following press release:
At around 7:00 a.m., Sunday, May 25, 2025, JMSDF spotted the following five PLAN vessels sailing in the waters approximately 200 km north of Kubashima Island.
Kuznetsov-class CV "Liaoning" (hull number 16)
Luyang-III-class DDG into 2 (hull number 121 and 122)
Jiangkai-II-class FFG into 2 (hull number 515 and 599)
On the same day, JMSDF observed takeoffs and landings of carrier-based fighters and carrier-based helicopters from "Liaoning."
JMSDF assets monitored the activities of these vessels.
JASDF fighters scrambled in response to the carrier-based fighters.
