Hyderabad, Jan. 27 -- The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) has strongly opposed the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines that reduce state governments' authority in the appointment of university vice-chancellors. TSCHE Chairman Prof Balakrishna Reddy termed the guidelines as a move against the federal structure of the country.
Speaking on the issue, Prof Balakrishna Reddy criticised the decision to appoint vice-chancellors through bureaucratic channels, calling it inappropriate. He argued that the UGC's guidelines encourage privatisation of education and restrict universities' autonomy, which could harm the functioning of state universities.
